Black anodized heatsinks increase thermal performance by 30 percent

PARIS Â Ohmite has introduced a black anodized version of its W Series heatsinks, which when used in still air, will give customers as much as a 30 percent increase in thermal performance.

Because heat is removed from a component in two principle ways, convection and radiation, Ohmite has investigated the latter with a view to fanless, power saving operation.
In situations where a fan is used, the heat removed via radiation is negligible compared to the heat removed through convection. Customers using forced air can marginally reduce costs by using the degreased, non anodized version.
Incidentally, this new development enabled Ohmite to push the power ratings of its TO-247 resistors to new levels.
