Clare Inc. announced the availability of the CPC1998, 5Arms AC power relay.
The CPC1998, an AC solid state switch using dual optically isolated power silicon-controlled rectifiers (SCR), is an integrated alternative to discrete optocoupler and Triac circuits. The device provides a load voltage switching capability up to 800VP. In addition the zero-cross circuitry ensures AC load switching while minimizing the generation of RFI emissions.
Applications include power management, motor control, heat coil control, valve and solenoid control, robotics, IT and server power supplies, medical equipment, railroad and traffic controls, consumer electronics, industrial controls, and, test and measurement equipment.
Key highlights:
- 2500Vrms of isolation input to output
- 800 VP blocking voltage
- 150Amp surge rating
- 5mA control current
- i4-PAC package
- Low thermal resistance (0.35°C/W)
- UL 508 recognized
Pricing: $3.58 each in 10ku.
Availability: Production quantities.

Good to know that The CPC1998 comes in the unique i4-PAC package, pioneered by IXYS to achieve the highest power ratings following a unique IXYS process in which the silicon chips are soft soldered onto the Direct Copper Bond (DCB) ceramic substrate instead of the copper lead-frame. The DCB ceramic substrate provides 2500Vrms isolation and very low thermal resistance (0.35°C/W) as well.
What does it mean by UL508 "recognized"? Does it mean it is UL 508 certified?

A component that's UL 508 recognized is deemed by UL to be suitable for use in an "Industrial Control Panel" as defined by the UL 508 standard. It's not "listed" by itself as a stand-alone device because it doesn't do anything unless it's associated with other circuitry and components. Basically that means you can use it to switch things in a "listed" control panel without having to have the component tested separately.
