Key highlights:
- A general-purpose evaluation platform
- Describes a PC standby power supply based on TOPSwitch-JX TOP265EG that operates from 110 VDC to 400 VDC input and provides > 91% efficiency at 12 V, 15 W.
- Based on TOPSwitch-JX TOP264EG
- Describes a supply for a similar application operating from 110 VDC to 400 VDC input and providing > 87% efficiency at 5 V, 10 W.
Global concern over increased power consumption by proliferating electronics devices has prompted regulatory and standards bodies to drive power efficiency and conservation measures. The European Union’s EuP Lot 6 standby rules, for example, call for consumer devices with standby input power of no more than 500mW. The unrelated 80 Plus program, involving U.S. utilities and energy efficiency organizations, requires—among other things—that power supplies must have a minimum efficiency of 80% when tested at each of the following three load conditions: 20%, 50% and 100% of rated power supply output.
Power Integrations’ applications engineer Paul Lacey hosts a 7-minute video overview of its TOPSwitch-JX family (below), composed of 16 power conversion ICs incorporating a 725 V power MOSFET for use in flyback power supplies.
