The iW1816 digital pulse width modulation (PWM) driver is the latest iWatt AccuSwitch primary-side driver. With an internal power switch rated to 800V for universal AC input, the driver supports high-capacitance loads to 6,000μF at up to 5W.
Features include an adaptively controlled soft start for quick start-up at a wide range of output voltages from 5V to more than 12V, when driving a large capacitive load. It enables under 100mW system standby power, with close to 50mW at light load, delivering high-energy efficiency in standby mode.
The iW1815 is optimized for such demanding power supply applications as smart meters, industrial control applications, microwave ovens and household appliances. It operates in noisy environments and uses iWatt’s EZ-EMI internal EMI technique that reduces EMI, simplifies manufacturing, reduces the need for input filtering and meets international EMI standards. It also offers full fault protection.
Key features:
- Internal power switch rated to 800V
- Accurate voltage (+/- 3%) and current control (+/- 3%)
- Start-up with large output capacitance (6,000µF)
- Optimized for 12V output
- Patented PrimAccurate primary-side control for increased reliability, reduced solution size, and lower BOM cost
The iW1816 is available in production quantities in a standard, low-cost 7-lead SOIC package. Samples are available at $0.38 in 1,000-piece quantities.
