Texas Instruments has expanded its portfolio of wireless charging technology for portable electronics with the bq500211, a wireless power transfer controller that allows users to use a Qi-compliant charging pad from any USB port or 5-V power adapter..

The transmitter circuit has the charging pad engage with a Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) Qi-compliant device, such as a smartphone or other portable electronics device, receive packet communication and manage the power transfer.

The bq500211 also features TI’s Dynamic Power Limit feature to optimize available power from a limited power source.

TI claims the device is the first integrated transmitter circuit for plugging a wireless power pad into any USB port or 5-V power system.

The circuit can operate as a WPC A5 transmitter with a magnetic positioning guide or as an A11 transmitter without the need of a magnet.

The bq500211 comes in a 48-pin, 7-mm by 7-mm QFN package with a suggested resale price of $3.95 each in 1,000-unit quantities.

The bq500211 is available in volume production through TI and its worldwide network of authorized distributors.

All  bq5101x integrated receivers provide a regulated DC output and digital-control feedback to the transmitter.
