Freescale Semiconductor and the Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics (NUAA) have jointly developed a space vector modulated – direct torque control (SVM-DTC) solution for industrial motor control applications. The solution is based on an advanced adaptive motor control algorithm featuring low noise and vibration, and does not depend on rotor parameters, simplifying adaptation to a variety of motor types.
Freescale’s MC56F8xxx DSCs integrate high-speed analog functions and efficient 32-bit digital signal processor cores and provide accurate digital control for power supplies and motors. The solution improves the energy efficiency of several types of motors and it reflects a growing trend towards sensor-less control. Freescale and the NUAA started working together in 2005. Joint projects include 180-degree sine wave controlled BLDC motors, PMSM fans, freezers and air conditioning compressors. Contact company for pricing and availability.

I have almost no idea what this announcement is about. It looks like an untouched copy of a nerd's press release with no explanation of any of the acronyms. What is a 'space vector modulated direct torque control' solution? What's a BLDC or a PMSM? I consider myself a fairly intelligent and well-read electronics engineer, but I prefer articles that actually add something to my sum total of knowledge. It begs the question, what did the 'author' actually contribute to this?

Despite Google and Wikipedia, Chas56 has a point. On any other day, I would not have time to research "space vector modulated direct torque control".
