Synopsys Inc. has announced Android operating system support for the DesignWare ARC 750D processor core. The objective is to address the needs of low-power, cost-sensitive portable and consumer applications.
The DesignWare ARC 750D host processor runs at 1.1 GHz and delivers 1800 DMIPs in an industry standard 40-nm process. It is suitable for designers requiring a high performance, low power and cost-effective microprocessor to drive Android based applications.
DesignWare ARC Android is a full port of the Android Open Source Project (v2.2 FroYo release) to the ARC processor architecture. It features both a fast Dalvik MTERP Interpreter and a Dalvik JIT Compiler optimized for ARC processors. Integrated, built and tested with the DesignWare ARC GNU tools, ARC Android features an out-of-the-box experience and is delivered with an optimized Board Support Package for reference designs to provide designers a quick and easy start-up guide.
Availability:
The DesignWare ARC 750D processor is available now.
Support for the Android operating system is available now for early adopters, and is expected to be in general availability in the third quarter of 2011.
