Ruggedized SATA connectors allow solid-state drives (SSDs) to survive harsh environments where industry-standard SATA connectors are inadequate. The connectors, designed for Microsemi’s TRRUST-Stor in partnership with Hypertronics Corp., safeguard data flow while solving severe shock and vibration issues prevalent in defense and industrial applications.

Offered in several form factors from board-mount to cable sets, the connector family has a contact and pin design that eliminates pin fretting and intermittent disconnects. The extended-environment connectors also boast 50% lower contact resistance than conventional designs and provide a minimum of 100,000 insertions with little to no performance degradation. Mating connectors come in right angle, vertical, and cable-set configurations, supporting SATA rates up to 6 Gb/s. The cable-mount version of the connector includes a quarter-turn latching mechanism that simplifies installation and assures a reliable long-term connection.
