Western Digital unveils 7-mm hard drive

A new mobile hard drive is compatible with slim notebooks that require a 7-mm drive height. The 2.5-inch WD Scorpio Blue from Western Digital (WD) offers 500 GB and 320 GB capacities, along with 400 Gs shock tolerance, protecting the drive mechanics and platter surfaces. The small-form-factor device leverages advanced power management features and algorithms that optimize the way the drive seeks data and thus improves power consumption. Additional features include WD's WhisperDrive technology to allow quiet performance and SecurePark, which parks the recording heads off the disk surface during spin up, spin down, and when the drive is off to improve long-term reliability.

Covered by a two-year limited warranty, WD Scorpio Blue ships through select distributors and resellers. MSRP for the 500-GB model WD5000LPVT is $99.99 USD, and the 320-GB, model WD3200LPVT is $79.99 USD. For more information, visit WD’s website.
