Two new mSATA SSDs target consumers using recently released motherboards with built-in mSATA sockets. The XPG SX300 and Premier Pro SP300 from ADATA Technology serve as a cache drive instead of main storage, allowing systems to reach speed boosts comparable to systems using SSDs as the primary drive.

Featuring a SATA 6 Gb/s interface, the XPG SX300 offers read and write speeds of 550 MB/s and 505 MB/s, respectively, with maximum 4K random write of 85,000 IOPs. The device comes in 64, 128, and 256 GB capacities. Meanwhile, the Premier Pro SP300 can increase system speed while serving in conjunction with a slower mechanical drive. It features a 3 Gb/s interface, as well as read and write speeds of 280 MB/s and 260 MB/s, respectively, with maximum 4K random write of 46,000 IOPs, Capacities include 24, 32, and 64 GB.

With their new drives, ADATA claims a 7% increase of storage capacity over other SSDs that use a SandForce controller. The SX300 and SP300 units offer support to Intel Smart Response Technology and comply with ATA/ATAP1-7 standard. Features include SMART (self-monitoring, analysis, and reporting technology) and NCQ command sets, TRIM command, and MTBF (mean time between failures) of 1,200,000 hours.
