Smart Storage unveils 1.6 TB enterprise SSD

Using consumer-grade multi-level cell (MLC) flash, a new enterprise-class SSD provides up to 1.6 TB of capacity. The 2.5-inch Optimus SAS SSD from SMART Storage Systems delivers a 1 GB/s sustained transfer rate in wide-port mode and read/write performance up to 100K/50K IOPS.

The unit also features the company’s Guardian Technology Platform, a proprietary suite of enterprise features and endurance-enhancement technologies that maximizes MLC flash for mixed-workload and write-intensive applications. The platform enables the Optimus SSD to achieve 10 random drive writes per day for five years. It also includes full data-path protection to safeguard user data and guards against data loss at the page and block levels through SMART's flexible redundant array of memory elements (FRAME) redundancy feature. In addition, high-reliability backup power circuitry maintains power in the event that a failure occur.
