A new SSD for PCI Express (PCIe) interfaces targets content creation and workstation applications. OCZ Technology Group Inc. demonstrated a prototype of its PCIe-based Vector SSD Series at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES, January 8-11). Residing directly on the PCIe bus, the device improves IOPS burst performance. It also delivers lower latency to data, faster file transfers and boot-ups, and expanded storage capacities over OCZ’s SATA III-based Vector SSDs.

Outfitted with the Indilinx Barefoot 3 controller, the PCIe-based model supports high-performance Windows-based laptops, desktops, and workstations with four lanes of PCIe Gen 2 in full-height (FH) and half-height (HH) formats.  Its advanced suite of flash management tools offers advanced drive endurance and data reliability in support of 100 GB host writes per day for five years.
