Connector integrates power and signal contacts
Etters, Pa. — Designed to meet increasing system power requirements that are driving the need for improved current density, FCI's HCI connector system design integrates both power and signal contacts to provide capability for both power distribution and power control in a single connector.

The HCI connector system features a flexible, expandable product platform and tooling, which provides for variation in the number and placement of signal and power contacts within the molded housing. A single HCI power contact accommodates a maximum of 85 amps based on a 30°C temperature-rise with zero airflow. This makes the system suitable for high-wattage power supplies, servers, storage enclosures, communications equipment and hotswap redundant N+1 power distribution systems.

Building on FCI's PwrBlade connector system, the industry standard for DC power supply interfaces and power distribution, the HCI connector family is suitable for designers looking to maximize linear current density without increased board real estate.

The connectors feature molded guides to ensure proper alignment during blind mating. The connectors use stamped-and-formed power contacts, initially pioneered by FCI with its PwrBlade system, as a cost-effective alternative to more expensive screw-machined contacts for high-current applications.

HCI connectors are available for either perpendicular or coplanar board-to-board configurations. The connector system complies with the hard-metric (12.5-mm daughtercard-to-backplane spacing) equipment practice and is stackable with FCI's AirMax VS product offering.
