Ipetronik equips data loggers with FlexRay, MOST extenders

MUNICH, Germany — Automotive measurement technology provider Ipetronik (Baden-Baden, Germany) has expanded its M-Log data loggers by the capability to measure and track Flexray and MOST bus signals.

The move is result of a cooperation with automotive software company K2L GmbH (Pforzheim, Germany): Ipetronik's M-Log Extender FlexRay is based on K2Ls Mocca compact device, a hardware platform for automotive and industrial applications which communicate via Ethernet and field bus systems. Ipetronik has modified the M-Log Extender according to its own needs.

The device can be used for intelligent pre-processing of bus signals and is designed for connecting to FlexRay and MOST automotive data networks. The MOST variant is available for all three available MOST flavors with bandwidths of 25, 50 or 150 Mbit/s.

The M-Log Extender is based on a 128Mhz 32-bit NEC automotive microcontroller and provides storage capacity of 1 MByte of Flash. For use within FlexRay environments, the device is equipped with a Philips TJA080 transceiver; the MOST variant uses the OS81050/082/110 transceiver chip from SMSC.

The extender measures via the standardized XCPonEthernet protocol. For this reason, it behaves like a control unit and can therefore have A2L files written to it. The communication with the M-Log data logger takes place via a 10/100baseT LAN connection.
