San Jose, Calif. Avago Technologies said it has introduced the industry's fastest 3.3-V/5-V optocoupler that is capable of transmitting data at 25 megabaud (MBd). The high-speed optocoupler also provides dual operating voltages and operation across the industrial temperature range.
This speed makes the ACPL-072L optocoupler suitable for high-speed, data-line transmission applications such as industrial networking including PROFIBUS and DeviceNet that typically require isolation at each interface location to increase data integrity and provide protection from power faults and ground-loop effects. The optocoupler may also used in applications such as analog-to-digital conversion, digital I/O ports, computer peripheral interfaces and microprocessor system interfaces.
The CMOS-compatible ACPL-072L operates at either 3.3 V or 5 V and features 6 nanosecond (ns) maximum pulse width distortion, which helps to maintain high data integrity over longer distances, said the company. The device exhibits high common-mode rejection of 10 kV/microsecond minimum, with 40 ns maximum propagation delay, and 20 ns maximum propagation delay skew over the industrial temperature range of -40°C to 105° C.
In addition, the optocoupler's CMOS output eliminates the need for a pull-up resistor at the output stage. The optocoupler also provides designers with greater flexibility to select supply voltages, reduce level-shifting circuitry and lower power consumption, said the company. Approvals are pending for UL1577, CSA File CA88324 (Notice#5), and IEC/EN/DIN EN 60747-5-2.
Supplied in a SO-8 package, the ACPL-072L high-speed optocoupler is priced at $3.42 each in quantities of 10,000.
