Camas, Wash. Sharp Microelectronics of the Americas has introduced a new Advanced Super View TFT-LCD (thin-film transistor liquid crystal display) for outdoor and bright ambient applications in transportation, industrial, retail, medical, and other markets.
Sharp said this LQ121S7LY01 LCD pushes performance levels in viewing angle and sunlight readability while maintaining a drop-in replacement for current Sharp designs. The new displays feature mountings, connectors, and pinouts identical to previous versions for drop-in replacement. The display offers improved durability and a field-replaceable backlight. The display also eliminates the need to add extra backlight bulbs, reduces heat in the enclosure and occupies less room in the Z dimension, said the company.
While the new transflective LCD panel is aimed at applications including marine navigation, GPS systems, gas pumps, ATMs, outdoor kiosks, fish finders, land surveying equipment, portable outdoor use medical equipment, instrumentation, electronic signage, and outdoor bingo terminals, Sharp developed this 12.1-inch model to address specific design priority considerations for designers of industrial applications. These concerns include a greater viewing angle (160° vertical/160° horizontal) and contrast (400:1), combined in a transflective display for a variety of indoor and outdoor lighting conditions.
Other key specifications of the SVGA LCD (800 x RGB x 600) include a brightness of 200 cd/m2 and power consumption rating of 8.5 W. Dimensions are 276 x 209 x 11 mm. Click the link for additional information about Sharp's LCD displays.
