Sunnyvale, Calif.—Mobius Microsystems Inc. announced the production release of its MM8201 oscillator for USB 2.0 applications, enabling smaller and thinner USB devices.

The MM8201 features a start-up time of 300 microseconds and a stand-by current consumption of 200nA under typical conditions. The specifications are key for USB applications in which low-power suspend-modes and quick wake-up times are needed. It also offers programmable frequencies from 10 to 100MHz. This monolithic, all-CMOS oscillator is suitable for Full- and Hi-Speed USB 2.0 interfaces. The device generates the commonly used USB frequencies of 12/24/30 and 48MHz with high jitter and frequency stability performance.

Mobius attributes its state-of-the-art jitter performance to its patented CMOS Harmonic Oscillator (CHO) technology. The low jitter frequency source can be used to lower the Bit Error Rates and improve the noise immunity represented by the "eye diagram" performance of USB interfaces.

The monolithic, single-IC CMOS oscillator contains no mechanical or moving parts and replaces quartz crystals and crystal oscillators. The MM8201 comes in an industry-standard, 5x3.2mm crystal compatible package. The MM8201 utilizes a low-cost plastic assembly which is ideal for surface mount soldering, and it eliminates any hermetically sealed ceramic packaging. The device offers MSL1 moisture sensitivity level.

Pricing: $0.75 for 1000 piece order quantities.
