Vishay Intertechnology Inc. has added the new W case (EIA 7361) for its low-ESR TR3 high-capacitance, high-voltage molded tantalum chip capacitor.

Measuring 7.3 mm by 6.0 mm, with a height of 3.45 mm, the new case size allows for capacitance and voltage range expansion beyond the existing A through E case sizes.

By using the W case capacitor, designers can reduce the component count in applications where they previously used multiple components in parallel to achieve large bulk capacitance for energy storage. This saves board space, reduces costs, and improves reliability in telecom base stations, data storage and high-end computing, industrial computers, automotive, and military applications, in addition to medical instrumentation.

Pricing: For U.S. delivery starts at $0.50 per piece.

Availability: Samples and production quantities will be available in Q2 2011, with lead times of eight weeks for larger orders.
