Vishay Intertechnology Inc. launched a new series of non-magnetic surface-mount multilayer ceramic chip capacitors (MLCCs) for MRI diagnostic equipment. VJ series non-magnetic capacitors are available with both C0G (NPO) and X7R/X5R dielectrics, each with a wide range of case sizes, voltage ratings, and capacitance values.
Recent technology advances in the area of ultra-high-field MRI can now produce much higher imaging resolution. Electronic components used in the MRI equipment or nearby require non-magnetic components that do not interfere with magnetic fields. To meet this need, Vishay's VJ series MLCCs are manufactured with non-magnetic materials and are 100 % safety-screened for magnetic properties before final packaging.
Vishay's VJ series devices feature a wet build process and a reliable Noble Metal Electrode (NME) system. This new non-magnetic series of capacitors can be assembled in an SMT process using conductive epoxy bonding or IR reflow. The capacitors are proven to have less interference than standard capacitors, which contain magnetic materials. The devices will typically be used in filter circuits for MRI equipment, implantable medical devices, ferromagnetic-sensitive instrumentation, electronic test systems, and high-end audio amplifiers.
