Ericsson PKU-E converter delivers 35W
Maurice Wright11/3/2008 5:39 PM EST
The Ericsson PKU-E DC/DC converter targets distributed-power systems design especially in telecom applications. The sixteenth-brick package and 7.5-mm height allows the power supply to fit in dense PCB designs. In a telecom application, the converter offers the flexibility to supply 24V for battery-powered mobile radio systems and 48V for legacy systems. The product works with input voltages ranging from 18V to 72V delivering 35W, and that flexibility can also suit industrial and transportation applications.
Designers can specify the converter in surface mount or pin-based through-whole packages. The surface mount option uses Ericsson's Floating Inserted Pin concept that accurately mounts the module in final assembly to PCBs with co-planarity variations. The surface mount module is compatible with forced convection and vapor phase reflow soldering processes.
The PKU-E is 89.5% efficient at 50% of load. It offers 1500Vdc input to output isolation. The converter implements a fly-forward topology that enables the wide input range. The predicted MTBF is 1.71 million hours according to the Telcordia SR332 estimation standard. In OEM quantities, the converter sekks for $15.
