A dual-independent channel, step-up DC/DC converter provides integrated fault protection features for output shorts, I/O overvoltages, and over-temperature conditions. Each channel of Linear Technology Corp.’s LT8582 uses two integrated 42 V switches: a 1.7-A master switch and a 1.3-A slave switch that can be tied together for a total current limit of 3 A. The LT8582 operates from an input voltage range of 2.5 V to 22 V with transient protection to 40 V, and each channel can be independently configured as a boost, SEPIC, inverting, or flyback converter.
The LT8582’s VCESAT switches at 0.27 V (tied together at 2.75 A) can deliver efficiencies up to 90%. A power good pin offers ease of use for event-based sequencing. For high-voltage outputs, the LT8582’s slave switch allows high-power charge pump topologies that require minimal external components. Users can program the converter’s switching frequency via a single resistor or synchronized to an external clock between 200 kHz and 2.5 MHz, minimizing external component sizes and avoiding “noise critical” frequency bands. Users also can adjust under-voltage lockout. Each channel requires a single feedback resistor to set the output voltage. Other features include external synchronization capability, output short circuit protection, and frequency foldback.

The LT8582EDKD comes in a 7-mm x 4-mm DFN-24 package and costs $3.75 each for 1,000-piece quantities. An industrial temperature (-40°C to 125°C) version, the LT8582IDKD, costs $4.13 each for 1,000-piece quantities. Both versions are available from stock.
