Microsemi Corp. expanded its 60 watt (W) Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) midspan family with a 24-port option that extends the benefits of four-pair powering and gigabit transmission to higher-density network deployments.

Like its one-, six- and 12-port counterparts, the PD-9524G midspan delivers up to 60W of power over all four pairs of Ethernet cabling, enabling it to dissipate half the power of conventional two-pair solutions while cutting energy consumption by 15 percent.

The PD-9524G midspan features the same energy-efficient PoE (EEPoE) technology used in Microsemi's recently introduced PD-5524G midspan, intended for saving power when devices that consume up to 25.5W are deployed, while maintaining IEE802.at-2009 compliance.

In addition to improving power efficiency, Microsemi's PD-95xxG midspan series also improves network deployment flexibility by enabling users to specify power devices (PDs) featuring a single interface with four-pair detection. Alternative power sourcing equipment solutions can only deliver 60W to PDs with a costly dual-PD interface, which can be prohibitively expensive especially in high-density network installations.

Like Microsemi's other 60W midspans, the PD-9524G product includes a gigabit interface to more easily support high-power devices such as pan-tilt-zoom (PTZ) cameras and thin clients. It also implements two-event classification as specified in the IEEE 802.3at specifications for communications with connected devices. All members of the PD-95xxG series family are designed to power high power network devices over Ethernet cabling, eliminating the need for wiring to external AC power sources. They also feature a proprietary power feed technology that supports all legacy PoE devices.
