Freescale Semiconductor has expanded its 8-bit JM microcontroller family with the MC9S08JM16 MCUs. Offered as cost-effective USB control solutions, the 'JM16 devices are intended to provide an economical, quick and easy way to standardize serial communications in industrial and consumer applications.

The parts feature on-chip USB 2.0 full-speed device support, up to 16 KB of flash memory, and system protection features such as low-voltage detection and a computer operating properly (COP) module. The 'JM16 devices are supported by the complimentary USB-LITE USB software stack by CMX as well as by Freescale's USB-MINI stack, and are software compatible with other devices in the company's Controller Continuum.

Samples of the 'JM16 devices are available now. The suggested resale price (USD) for 10,000-piece quantities starts at $1.73. The DEMO9S08JM16 demonstration board is available at a suggested resale price of $79 (USD) each.
