Irvine, Calif. — Fast Forward Video announced the release of their Recon DVR with optional USB, CF, SMPTE timecode and serial digital interface (SDI) features for increased flexibility. The Recon DVR is a compact board-level digital video recorder. At 2.8 inches by 3.9 inches in size, the Recon occupies the same footprint as a laptop hard drive and can record up to 40 hours of video. In addition to its ability to record video as QuickTime files for easy viewing and editing, the Recon includes the option of a USB 2.0 port to download data directly, as well as a CompactFlash slot to record to CF cards.

The Recon offers SDI, which is commonly used in broadcast and high-end recording. With the SDI I/O option (SMPTE 259M standard), users can now record, transfer and play back broadcast-quality video in a digital environment. It is suitable for high-quality video recording and playback for embedded system, OEM, compact and remote/portable applications. The DVR is designed to meet the needs of freelance producers, portable broadcast applications, video-assist operators, surveillance and security organizations, video analysts, emergency "first-response" teams, law enforcement, government and military agencies.
