Staccato Communications' latest reference design for its Ripcord family of ICs delivers a compact form-factor design for a cost-effective path for Wireless USB connectivity with existing USB devices.

Based on all-CMOS single-chip ICs, Staccato's Ripcord Device Adapter reference design leverages the cost advantages of single-chip solutions. It targets USB peripheral applications including printers, DSC, DVC, and mass storage.

The Ripcord SC3500 product family is implemented with 110-nm digital CMOS process technology and is offered in two packaging options. The SC3500P is a complete System-In-Package (SiP) that provides a fully-integrated solution for simplified RF design and a high degree of manufacturability.

The SC3500C is a Wafer-Level Chip Scale Package (WCSP) that provides a low-cost, small-form factor option for module manufacturers and OEMs' that have in-house RF expertise.

Staccato will formally unveil its new reference design at the Computer Electronics Show (CES) in January with two demonstrations highlighting interoperability with third-part products in real-world scenarios.

The first demo will exhibit multiple devices connected in a home office environment and demonstrate wireless printing, file transfer, synchronization, and a wide range of applications enabled by USB without the use of any cables.

The second demo will utilize the WiMedia platform to show streaming content on a mobile platform. Users can select video broadcast and on-demand services. Demos are by appointment and will take place in a private suite sponsored by Staccato during show hours.
