Wisair's wireless USB dongle design focuses on speed, fast integration

Wisair's newest Wireless USB host and device dongle reference design raises the performance bar for Certified Wireless USB products.

Based on the company's WSR601 CMOS single-die chip, the dongle set reference design incorporates Wisair's UltraSpeed technology, which enhances Wireless USB throughput but is Certified Wireless USB compliant.

By using several acceleration schemes, UltraSpeed pushes throughput in the range of 70 to100 Mbps when connected to a Host Wire Adapter, and up to 200 Mbps when connected to a Wireless USB native host. The dongle set also provides a user-friendly Wireless USB association, eliminating the need for cables for initial association (pairing).

The reference design consists of a host dongle, a device dongle with power supply, software drivers, management application, and documentation. To accelerate OEMs and ODMs time to market, the dongle reference design will be delivered as a production-ready solution, pre certified by WiMedia, USB-IF, FCC, and TELEC.

The new dongle set design is already in production by several tier-1 ODMs and will be demonstrated at the 2008 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, Nevada, on January 7-10 in the WiMedia TechZone (LVCC South Hall 3, #31642), the USB-IF TechZone (South Hall 4, #35625) and meeting room (South Hall 4, room #35376).
