D-Link announced the availability of a desktop widget that allows users to monitor any D-Link 802.11n Wi-Fi routers to monitor Internet and network send/receive rates, along with other settings of the home network including security settings and network name.

Widgets are interactive virtual tools that have grown significantly in popularity, providing single-purpose services such as showing the user the latest news, the current weather, the time, a calendar, a dictionary, a map program, a calculator, desktop notes, photo viewers, or even a language translator, among other things.

The D-Link Network Monitor v2.0 is a download that supports Yahoo! Widgets, Vista Gadgets and Mac Dashboard. Available at www.dlink.com/widget, it displays a gauge-style real-time read out of network performance on the user's desktop.

The updated network-monitoring tool is compatible with all D-Link 802.11n routers, including the Xtreme N routers such as the DIR-655, DIR-855, and DGL-4500. Users can visit support.dlink.com to determine which firmware upgrade is required for specific router models.
