Product Brief
Phoenix Contact : Bluetooth adapter enables wireless Ethernet
Henri Arnold9/1/2009 5:51 AM EDT

The Bluetooth Ethernet Port Adapter FL BT EPA AIR SET from Phoenix Contact is a rugged and reliable “wireless Ethernet cable” to transfer control data to machine units that are either moved frequently or are mobile in rugged industrial environments. The newly developed Bluetooth “Lean Stack” and new priority assignment functions permit fast, Profinet and Profisafe wireless data transfer with update times of eight milliseconds.

The Ethernet protocols are transferred protocol transparent, just the same as for TCP/IP, Modbus/TCP or Ethernet/IP. The Port Adapter is a “ready to use” package and can be commissioned in just a few steps: When connected, only the operating mode has to be selected using a mode button. The wireless link starts to operate just a few seconds later.
Wireless communication is encrypted and invisible to other Bluetooth devices, therefore providing protection against unauthorized access and manipulation. Bluetooth Factory Line devices have proven themselves in many wireless systems that have been installed since 2004 and have demonstrated that they are stable and work reliably over the long term, even under difficult installation and environmental conditions.
