Unterpremstaetten, Austria – austriamicrosystems has housed its latest AS5510 linear Hall sensor in a tiny 1.46 x 1.1 mm chip scale package.
The AS5510 is aimed at consumer electronics designers seeking high performance contactless linear position sensing in space-constraint applications such as closed-loop position control systems.
In addition to featuring 10-bit digital output resolution, the AS5510 includes an I²C 2-wire serial interface for switching between 4 different sensitivity ranges and for simple transmission of data to a microcontroller. It can measure the absolute position of a simple 2-pole magnet for a typical lateral stroke of 0.5 - 2 mm with air gaps of 1.0 mm.
Key highlights:
- 10 bit resolution
- I²C Interface
- Power down mode
- Current consumption of 25 µA
- Programmable sensitivity
- -30°C to +85°C temperature range
- 6-pin WLCSP
- 2.5V to 3.6V supply voltage
Pricing: The 1,000 piece price is $0.64.
Availability: Samples are available now.

I like the addition of the I2C interface! Most of the hall effect devices I have encountered were analog output only. They required an A/D input and as such were susceptible to system noise. This seems to be a step forward.. I will have to get some for testing, thanks for the heads up!

For 1mm span, 10 bit is very good resolution. Linearity of 3% is also good for applications. What is maximum frequency response? I wish to design web thickness gauge using this device.
