LONDON Imagination Technologies Group plc, a licensor of graphics processor designs, has said that Japan’s Renesas Technology Corp. has licensed one of the PowerVR SGX graphics and video processing core family members under a multiple-use license arrangement.
Renesas has previously licensed PowerVR MBX and PowerVR MBX Lite and is currently deploying these in automotive, consumer and mobile devices, Imagination said.
Imagination (Kings Langley, England) receives license fees and royalty revenues on integrated circuits that incorporate its IP and the company said it would release a trading update in April 2006.
Imagination launched the PowerVR SGX in July 2005. At the time Imagination said the PowerVR SGX was available for licensing in three variants, the SGX510, SGX520, SGX530, with sizes ranging from less than 2 square millimeters to 8 square millimeters in 90-nanometer manufacturing process technology. PowerVR SGX performs video and image decoding and encoding processing for standards such as H264, MPEG4/2, WMV, JPEG and others.
