SAN JOSE, Calif. — Mercury Computer Systems Inc., a provider of embedded, real-time digital signal and image processing solutions, has rolled out a new server, based on the Cell processor.

The 1U Dual Cell-based server is designed to deliver 410-GFLOPS of performance in a rack-mountable 1U server form factor. It is aimed for compute-intensive embedded applications such as image processing, medical imaging, and seismic processing.

Developed in conjunction with IBM's Engineering & Technology Services business unit, the Mercury 1U Dual Cell-based server supports Linux via a Yellow Dog Linux BSP from Terra Soft Solutions.

It also features Mercury’s MultiCore Plus Advantage technology, which employs middleware that abstracts hardware capabilities and manages the distribution of data across multiple computing elements working in tandem.

Availability of the Mercury 1U Dual Cell-based server is planned for the third quarter of calendar 2006.
