1,000 embedded devices per person
Lisa Su, chief technology officer at Freescale Semiconductor Inc. (Austin, Texas), claims that today there are almost 200 embedded processors in the home and car of consumers. But by 2015 there will be 1,000 embedded processors per person. That trend, said Su, will redefine the semiconductor industry away from PC-oriented chip makers toward embedded solution providers like Freescale. Su made her comments in her keynote to the Freescale Technology Forum (June 16-19, 2008). Further, She said that intelligent embedded processing will not be defined by the speed or size of chips, but by changes in the way people live their lives. Embedded processing is "being embraced today by almost every segment of society — from children to the elderly."
