A View from C-Level

Craig Barrett went from the Ivy-covered halls of Stanford in materials science to Intel Corp. in 1974 and slowly but surely helped mold the company into a manufacturing powerhouse. Copy-exact became an industry watchword for quality and efficiency. But when he took over as CEO in 1998, the microprocessor was old news and communications was ascendant, an area in which Intel didn't play. He set out to change that. In May 2005, he moved from Intel CEO to chairman at the age of 65. He couldn't be faulted for spending more time at his Montana spread fly fishing, but he's not. He's on the war path.
