@Sawka2Me: I don't know. I know my job would be a lot easier if I had a device that I could tote around with all of my tech manuals, magazines, wireless internet, and music. It's definitely a device that helps with work efficiency.
On first looking at the IPad it didn't look suitable for any type of series text input but I have been told that you can use a Bluetooth keyboard with it. Has anyone had experience of hooking up external devices.
After a 20-year career in magazine publishing I would submit that the iPad is a game changer. Out of the gate Wired magazine has done a nice job; horizontal to go from page-to-page, vertical to read a multi-page story. They also managed to embed hyperlinks without being intrusive.
The iPad is all about the consumption of media, not the creation. At lease for now.
It's a game changer. Web surfing, e-mail, books, interactive magazines, games and a whole bunch of 'infotainment' via the Apps store make it a must have IMHO. The touchscreen keyboard is pretty cool as well!
Another game-changing aspect is its potential use for education. Kind of harks back to the CD-ROM heyday, but much much better due to connectivity and ability to dynamically update content.
"The Elements" is an excellent app showing off some of what can be done in this area.
In agree with all the above comments but wonder how one can justify saying that the iPad will replace notebooks, as I've read in a number of other articles and blogs. The comments about that "the iPad is all about consumption of media, not the creation", and "web surfing, e-mail, books, interactive magazines, games and a whole bunch of 'infotainment' via the Apps store" describes a very nice product for interfacing with the internet, providing a convenient portable entertainment medium, and a great way to replace a lot of paper textbooks. But it doesn't seem to have any more functionality than is already present in many of the smartphones on the market (except for a much larger screen). And if you need a separate Bluetooth keyboard for serious text input, doesn't it then just become a smart (and not so portable) touch-screen monitor? How could this replace (in this incarnation at least) a notebook computer?
Yep, a front-facing camera would open it up for video chat. The form factor is almost perfect, but the position most people use (flat on table, or on lap) makes it a bit awkward. Would probably have to get the tilt stand (which is also a charge station) and the external keyboard.
I'm really that that technology provided cameras that fit in my pocket. I carry my iPhone4 with a good camera, a replacement for my Flip, and 3G when it is available. And the face-to-face chat is slick. Guess i just don't need a camera on my iPad; too big to hold up and steady for pictures.
I do appreciate the multitasking on the iPhone and I'm hoping the the iOS4 update for the iPad will have it. Scheduled for the fall, but Apple hasn't said anything further. Not too surprising; I'm disappointed that Apple didn't push the upgrade sooner.
I'm somewhat amazed at how long the battery life is on the iPad. On a recent flight from IAD to SFO my wife watched her movie, I watched mine, read my books and the iPad still had 75% power left.

The iPad looks totally sweet. Hopefully my work will hook one up so I can have it.

It seems like the iPad would not only boost work efficiency, but also employee morale.

The lack of flash support and inability to stream some media types kills the experience on many web sites.

Am I the only person disappointed by the lack of a camera on this gadget?
