Opensource solution for Controller Area Network (CAN) monitoring
Roman Alyautdin3/13/2011 9:54 AM EDT
My friends and I have started open source project aimed to develop
CAN tracing and monitoring software.
It is very important to know what features are desired.
Program will have userinterface and will be developed for Linux and other OS.
Project home is:
https://github.com/fulcrum7/SCANFISH
Do You have any suggestions?

I have used Canalyzer from Vector before. It is good if it can achieve similar functions.

Probably the biggest issue would be able to support the wide array of CAN interfaces without trouble. Most vendors have differring interfaces to the CAN themselves.
Good Luck

Yes given the flavors of CAN it will be neat if you can generate a general solution that works. Keep us informed of your progress!

I suppose this project will be kickstarted on linux (for PC)? What CAN controller card will you use? There will be kernel driver-level development as well as GUI-based application.

Thanks for paying attention to project.
Linux on PC is a starting point.
It's a good idea to make GUI crossplatform.
I have access to board with mcp2515.
In fact Kernel Development isn't a part of the SCANFISH.
But this issue could be discussed. Currently my small community and I are working on
requirements. Any help is welcome.

Thanks for support!
Currently the main idea is to make indusrial application.
Another aim is to make platform flexible. So it can be
redeveloped easily.
Maybe one day automobile guru will join us and will
manage automobile branch of the project.

I believe this need not be restricted to automobile. It can be targeted at industrial control as well.
