Rumor of Apple replacing Intel with ARM

Jonathan Chan

I have thought about Apple would eventually use ARM in all their products given the benefits that ARM brings to the table. Here is a rumor.

If the ARM ecosystem continue to grow, yes there would be the day. But 2013, doubt it is that soon.

This will put pressure on Intel to reduce their margin for products supply to Apple. This may be used to lower price for Apple Intel products and increase Apple profitibilty.
It is also rumorured that AMD is considering ARM. They will do this if they have big customer, like potential Apple. AMD also offers lower cost soltution as compare to Intel. ARM may be working as catalyst for Apple ARM AMD migration.

Apple needs secrecy to protect their new technology idea from vendors like Smasung and others. For this, they need to have their own fab. Can Apple buy AMD and replaces Intel core with ARM? Eventually, Apple will also replace ARM with their own core.

I wonder if this is more of a positioning strategy on the part of Apple? Given the significant speed differences and multi-core differences between ARM and Intel I would think that for the high end machines they would still look to Intel (unless there is some quad/6 core 3Ghz ARM cores out there I was not aware of).

hello hm, i like that idea of buying AMD and make their own ARM chips, that should put pressure on Intel, but easier said than done. That would require Apple full job for their foundry which is not their main business.

I believe this is a phantasy (bad dream might be a better description). As long as Apple has a strong and competent management it will not happen.
