The cheapest tablet promised by Indian Govt a few months back, to spread mobile computing to students in India, especially to the majority who can't afford to buy the tablets in the market, is made open for booking. The cheapest tablet "Akash" costs only Rs. 2500/- (~USD 50/-) and is available for booking online. The Canadian company Datawind, the manufacturer of Datawind has announced an upgraded version "UbiState 7" which would be made available from beginning od 2012 and is open for pre-booking. The price tag of "Ubistate 7" is announced Rs. 2999/- (~USD 60/-). One the first day after its announcement huge traffic is reported on the website and when I tried today, I found the site was down :(

Me too! :)
The only hitch I have in my mind is the resistive touch screen. I can't imagine having a capacitive touch screen in this price. But can't accept giving up the comfort of a capcitive touch-screen vs the resistive one. Hope they come-up with launcing the capacitive touch screen version next.

$60 for a tablet computer is exciting. Are there are any pictures you can post?
