US Says "Screw It, We Give Up"
Pocono Armchair Review7/20/2012 9:24 PM EDT
After a long debate concerning student loan interest rates, the US Congress said "screw it, we don't want to subsidize loans for graduate students anymore, because we don't think we can compete internationally anyway. Sorry. Besides, we need the money for our life-time salaries after we leave Congress, courtesy of the taxpayer. Thanks, taxpayer."

Hi Rich,
Any links to the debates? In the UK, the Government decided to give up as well, which is a great shame IMO. We are perpetuating the status quo whereby rich people/communities stay rich and poor people/communities stay poor :-( A society which does offer its poor a fair chance to improve their lives is doomed to failure....

It is shame that government has taxpayer's money at disposal to save the financial institutes but not for the students which are the future taxpayers.
