This idea can be useful in one condition - all cars get this system at once. The situation when half of vehicles has the system, half doesn't - is unacceptable.
Having one single self-navigating vehicle among ordinary cars with drivers is like driving a bomb with a timer. Sooner or later it will explode - something will go wrong. And it can be dramatic.
