a lot closer than the researchers realize as they tend to stand too close to the action. I have always wondered why the toroidal shape for confinement?
It would seem that since you are using magnetic fields genereated by RF the shape could be any kind of thermos bottle. Why not cylindrical and for that reason why not set up a confinement field of standing waves like a Klystron or a Flourescent Tube?
The ITER is the wrong answer. It is Negative power, and there is no plan to make it Positive power. MIT is going to add megawatts to the Negative power output. Polywell is the only viable fusion solution, it holds the world's record for DD fusions/second (at 10^9) and the cost is trivial compared to the ITER. It's Great science though! Keep it up.
