True, After Cisco gave pretty negative outlook numbers it has no choice but to innovate itself to keep its financial numbers look healthy.

Also, I am a little surprised to see the number as low as 17% . Especially, for all the new grid projects, it is important to have advanced metering infrastructure in place. The peak load can be managed and hence grids can come up with reasonable sizes and investments.

Its interesting to see Cisco entering the Smart Metering segment, and Itron is a nice partner to get started. With the govt. push for "Smart" metering, it surely will pay well in the long run to have acquired specialists in Arch Rock.Itron itself seemed to have good solutions for LPRF in the Sub GHz bands for metering. I believe, some of their networks used Handhelds to communicate with nodes and too store data.

Great news! A couple more billions to flow Cisco's 'Systems'way. It is just amazing how Cisco continues to discover new markets and to produce the various devices that dominate such markets.

NEXT UPCOMING BROADCAST
In conjunction with unveiling of EE Times’ Silicon 60 list, journalist & Silicon 60 researcher Peter Clarke hosts a conversation on startups in the electronics industry. One of Silicon Valley's great contributions to the world has been the demonstration of how the application of entrepreneurship and venture capital to electronics and semiconductor hardware can create wealth with developments in semiconductors, displays, design automation, MEMS and across the breadth of hardware developments. But in recent years concerns have been raised that traditional venture capital has turned its back on hardware-related startups in favor of software and Internet applications and services. Panelists from incubators join Peter Clarke in debate.
