I am surprised by the power consumption comparison. 6.9 kW SSD vs 10 kW HDD. I'd have expected much more difference, with no moving parts and all.

Bottom line is I've moved to a mix of SSDs and standard HDDs for my storage. Using the smaller SSD for that being accessed a lot and the HDDs more for longer term bulk storage. I'm no longer willing to live with the slower performing HDDs, but certainly not yet willing pay the extra $$$ for 1TB of SSDs either :-)

The "world" may never know that answer to the reliability question. Bottom line is that the hard drive market continues to advance at an astonishing rate with pricing moving farther from the ssd's.
