I'm just going by Intel's rhetoric. There's a good chance their tick-tock will be going rougher and more costly than before.

Some visionaries such as 'resistion' seem to have all the answers. When will the 10 pm (ISO picometre) 1000mm FAB be started I would like to know.

Actually D1X start-up in 2013 is best suited for post-11 nm architectures.

What will be cost of this new 450 mm fab? How much time do they need to build and go to full production? I wish it will reduct price for new Intel processors.

Speculation-based articles are too vulnerable. Fortunately this time, not too far off the mark. But nothing exciting just where the 22 nm fabs are going to be, 2 in Arizona and 3 in Oregon.

This may just be an Intel smokescreen to hide their $2.5 billion FAB they built in Dalian China and starting operation this month. In addition Intel invested another $ 1.0 billion in Vietnam to build a assembly/test facility there. More job creation in far away places while Silicon Valley semiconductor industry is dying.

I expect that Intel will be looking seriously at 450mm for their next fab. They like to take the advange in the market early and have the cash to do it.

I figure Intel feels it best not to respond to a rumor if it's a couple of days ahead of reality, several months ahead of reality, or infinitely far from reality. It's a big company and there are probably lots and lots of rumors stemming from various motivations of the rumormonger. They also could probably spend a lot of unnecessary energy responding and then they'd be stuck since NOT responding to a particular rumor (after responding to others) would, to some, be considered a response in its own right.

Why is Intel rejecting the claims ? Anythign wrong if they announce that they are indeed building the fab ?

NEXT UPCOMING BROADCAST
In conjunction with unveiling of EE Times’ Silicon 60 list, journalist & Silicon 60 researcher Peter Clarke hosts a conversation on startups in the electronics industry. One of Silicon Valley's great contributions to the world has been the demonstration of how the application of entrepreneurship and venture capital to electronics and semiconductor hardware can create wealth with developments in semiconductors, displays, design automation, MEMS and across the breadth of hardware developments. But in recent years concerns have been raised that traditional venture capital has turned its back on hardware-related startups in favor of software and Internet applications and services. Panelists from incubators join Peter Clarke in debate.
