To Peregrine, one of my former employers, I wish the best in its endeavors as a soon-to-be public company. This is nearly 10 years in the making and I admire the wherewithal of its management (congrats Drs. Reedy & Cable!). Now I wish I had exercised my options before leaving! It looks like they unloaded their Australian fab (the article above says they are now fab-less). They also spun off their photonics group several years ago which was on the verge of becoming accretive to their bottom line. Dr. MP Divakar

Best of luck to Peregrine. Just wondering why intel is left behind and IBM took the lead in this technology.

As data rates begin to move beyond 25 Gbps channels, new problems arise. Getting to 50 Gbps channels might not be possible with the traditional NRZ (2-level) signaling. PAM4 lets data rates double with only a small increase in channel bandwidth by sending two bits per symbol. But, it brings new measurement and analysis problems.
