With the IP comapny in their wings Cadence will actually be able to gain something. It may be easier to provide some IP's along with their EDA tools is what I see as a basic gain at this moment.

Same reason Synopsys acquired ChipIdea. EDA without IP is no longer a very growth-oriented business model.

Cadence is EDA and cosmic is in design, not sure if they want to acquire Cosmic. I guess its more to do with financial stability of cosmic.Let us see whats the vision of Cadence CEO on being one of the board of directors.

Interesting. It seems a wild prediction I made last month will soon materialize :) . This seems like a first step by cadence towards the acquisition of cosmic. (see above link "Cosmic to develop IP for Globalfoundries")

As data rates begin to move beyond 25 Gbps channels, new problems arise. Getting to 50 Gbps channels might not be possible with the traditional NRZ (2-level) signaling. PAM4 lets data rates double with only a small increase in channel bandwidth by sending two bits per symbol. But, it brings new measurement and analysis problems.
