Which segment of tools did boost the growth? Fronend/Backend, ESL/HLS/place-route?

@pkmiami4- sorry but I don't see any negative tone in this article. This was straight facts pulled from the Synopsys announcement. Synopsys continues to hum along.

Synopsys has great product line, no doubt. But why is it that VLSI giants like TI moving away from Synopsys to Cadence ? Is synopsys slowly loosing its customer base ?

Synopsys has a strong product line. I think they may have picked up some business off of Magma and Monterrey Design. Mentor Graphics is also doing very well and is well positioned. Their acquisition of Sierra Design Automation is perhaps the best strategic acquisition to ever occur in the EDA industry. Cadence got hurt a while back due to issues with some of their larger customers and probably will rebound. I'm wondering if Cadence and Magma may merge in the future. Given the overall complexities, it is not very often that design teams switch their software. It does happen often enough to keep competition alive in the EDA industry.

Maybe Cadence is not happy there.

Why the negative tone to this article? They beat estimates and their outlook is positive. Solid company.
