I see people always complain about patent trolls but what if you invented something and never made any products but sold your inventions to IBM. Then, are you also a Patent troll? Same thing. You never produce but sold it to others to make a profit. That is not illegal. Our court system always make it hard for true Patent trolls to collect royalities. I think these Judges hate patent trolls.

Another thing is nothing wrong with being a patent troll. Same thing as nothing wrong with someone lining up to buy new homes from developers. They do that all the time when the market is Hot. People just make some money from others. That is pure capitalism unless you want to live in a heaven where everything is FREE.

LSI got the patents from Agere which was owned by AT&T and invented the wireless technology. Then, LSI somehow transfer those patents to Mosaid and LSI will receive 20% of the royalties if Mosaid ever wins anything or gets any license. So, Mosaid is not a patent troll at all. Just like selling a house, you sell your house to the next buyer and the next buyer might sell that house to another buyer. Nothing wrong with transferring inventions to others so they get to receive royalties. The only thing is those who are going to pay royalties will always complain. Same thing for the new home buyer who have to pay a higher price than the person who sold them the house in which case maybe they got it for $100,000 in 1980 but sold it for $1 million in 2007 and now the new buyer is complaining that he paid too much when the house was only for $100,000 back in 1980. Same thing for anyone who will be paying royalties for inventions.

Mosaid is not a prototypical patent troll. Mosaid designed and sold the designs to many DRAMs that were manufactured in Asia. They as a consequence generated a fairly substantial circuit design porfolio in the DRAM space. For a long time they focused on design contract work aside from DRAM circuit test and characterization hardware. I suspect some of the patents in question here might have been bought ornegotiated license for as much if not all the IP portfolio of WiLan ( also of Ottawa ) was accumulated. But yes there likely remains a component of trolling here too, but Mosaid at least historically has possessed unusual circuit design talent that many firms licensed DRAM designs of.

@Frank It settled patent litigation suit against IBM, resulting in a favorable patent licensing agreement. Looking at the number of filed suits this year guess next year will be good year for the company.

When I first read the title I read it as "Mossad files suit against Intel, others" and thought 'Why not just assassinate them'.

Mosaid's website says they have 2,647 patents and applications pending, and yet their quarterly revenues were only $20M? I suppose that's probably enough to keep all those lawyers in new Armani suits :)
