Every once in a while, the physicists who get obscene research dollars have to put buzzwords on their explanations to justify future dollars. That's what this sounds like to me.

Calling it "perpetual motion" when it lasts 40 seconds seems a bit odd. Even if it was 40 hours, that is still a long way from perpetual...

It is interesting but tough to say that this is super conductivity as it will be quite hard to find the resistance offered by this circulating ring.

Colin - a question. Once the flow is stopped by the laser, what starts it again? It is not clear whether or not the flow needs restarting from an external source, e.g. electric field or what? What am I missing?

As data rates begin to move beyond 25 Gbps channels, new problems arise. Getting to 50 Gbps channels might not be possible with the traditional NRZ (2-level) signaling. PAM4 lets data rates double with only a small increase in channel bandwidth by sending two bits per symbol. But, it brings new measurement and analysis problems.
