@arthurmaki: ...my wife could not find the parked car at the mall a few times and this would definitely help her not get into embarrassing situations...

Does your wife have a smartphone like an iPhone or an Android phone? If so, you can download a really cheap app that will allow her to remember her location when she parks the car and then locate it later.

I've been using "Carrr Matey" -- a pirate-themed app along the same lines. You "drop anchor" when you park, and follow the map back to your "vessel."

I don't think I'll need this app most of the time -- but at Christmas the local shopping mall is jam-packed with cars, and past experience has shown me that this would be useful then. And I can also see it being useful when I'm traveling and park a hire car in an unfamiliar city... Actually, I can't wait to try it in earnest...

What are the engineering and design challenges in creating successful IoT devices? These devices are usually small, resource-constrained electronics designed to sense, collect, send, and/or interpret data. Some of the devices need to be smart enough to act upon data in real time, 24/7. Are the design challenges the same as with embedded systems, but with a little developer- and IT-skills added in? What do engineers need to know? Rick Merritt talks with two experts about the tools and best options for designing IoT devices in 2016. Specifically the guests will discuss sensors, security, and lessons from IoT deployments.
