Sounds like marketing drivel to me. In fact I have an overwhelming sense of deja-vu -- haven't we all heard this from Redmond before?
For instance wasn't Vista supposed to be a bottom-to top rewrite of XP (itself a supposed rewrite of 95/98) - what could possibly be a bigger overhaul than that?
And speaking of Vista, after *that* particular exercise in vapor-features, it's no surprise that they're keeping mum on all the new capabilities that v8 won't be able to do...
I'd love it if Win8 would allow me to run Mac OS X virtually, then I could use one laptop to run both Windows and Mac. Until that happens I will happily continue to use my MacBook Pro which runs Windows 7 using Parallels.
SSD's could be another case of faster hardware solving software's problems. My main computer boots Win7 off an SSD in under ten seconds, and the SSD isn't one of the PCIe ones. The real question is whether Win8 is going to be significant enough to make a difference. Win7 has been considered a success, but the huge majority of business desktops still run XP. They pretty much skipped over Vista and are only now incorporating Win7. Personally, I think that the faster OS release cycle from Microsoft is a mistake, at least in the business market.
